Where You Might Be Stationed & What You’ll Be Doing
You will be assigned to a specific team based on event requirements, your preferences, and your strengths. The overall operational areas include:
- Event Office – Public Liaison: Serving as a primary point of information for general attendees, answering questions, handing out event maps or guides, and helping lost patrons find key zones.
- Guest / VIP Check-in: Welcoming VIP guests, sponsors, and special dignitaries, managing guest lists, checking credentials, and distributing passes or welcome packs.
- Fashions on the Field – Registration / Check-in: Assisting participants entering the vintage fashion competition, processing on-the-day sign-ups, managing queue lines, and checking in pre-registered contestants.
- Plaque Distribution: Organising and handing out commemorative dash plaques to eligible vehicle entrants upon arrival or completion.
- Parking – Grounds: Guiding general public vehicles and spectator traffic into designated parking areas safely and efficiently to maintain smooth traffic flow.
- Blumel Road – Wayfinding / Traffic: Stationed along key access points to provide clear directional assistance to pedestrians and motorists, ensuring safe navigation around high-traffic zones.
- Museum Security / Invigilation: Monitoring exhibit areas and historical vehicle displays, ensuring public safety around sensitive assets, and assisting visitors with site boundaries.
- Stage Admin – Fashions / Award: Assisting the stage manager behind the scenes, lining up competition or award winners, managing props or microphones, and keeping the schedule running smoothly.

To lock in your role you’ll need to:
- Please register your interest below by Sunday 13 September, 2026.
- Provide a valid DSCI Working With Children Check. If you do not hold one, the History Trust of South Australia will complete one on your behalf.
FAQ
Certain volunteer opportunities may require prior experience, while others we will provide you with any necessary training to complete your shift. Make sure you read the position details before applying to ensure that you are well-suited for the role.
You need to be over 16 years of age to volunteer at the Finish Festival.
Application Review (August – September)
Once volunteer registrations open in August and you submit your form, our team will review your details, preferred roles, and availability to find the best possible fit across our event locations.
Role Confirmation & Allocation (September)
You will receive an email confirmation detailing your assigned role, location, and shift times as we finalise our event operations teams ahead of October.
Gear Collection & Event Day (Sunday, 18 October 2026)
On or leading up to event day, you’ll attend your designated check-in window to collect your official volunteer lanyard, accreditation, and gear—and then you’ll be ready to help us bring the RAA Bay to Birdwood to life!
RAA Bay to Birdwood covers all of its volunteers for personal accident or injury and liability while they are performing their duties at the RAA Bay to Birdwood. We are committed to providing a safe workplace to our staff and volunteers in accordance with workplace health and safety legislation.
Don’t worry—before the event, we will send you all the details, including your exact parking location and a designated parking permit.
The RAA Bay to Birdwood is an all-weather event. We recommend checking the forecast ahead of time and bringing appropriate weather gear (such as a waterproof jacket if rain is predicted, or sun protection). If severe weather impacts safety, shift supervisors will coordinate alternative arrangements on the day.
Volunteers are provided with an official volunteer shirt, vest and cap to ensure you are easily identifiable. We recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes (as you may be on your feet or walking outdoors) and dressing appropriately for the weather.
